Spike Stitch Can Coozie
By Red Wing Crochet
Before you get started…
Written in US terms. This is an upper beginner pattern with knowledge of working in the round needed.
Gauge:
After row 5: 2 1/2 inch
(Keep in mind your tension, the average 12 oz can is 2.5 inches wide :)
Difficulty:
Upper Beginner
Materials:
Medium/Worsted Weight (4) 100% Cotton (I like lily's sugar and cream)
Crochet Hook: Size 5 mm
Stitch Marker if needed
Darning Needle
Measuring Tape
Abbreviations:
sc: single chain
blo: back loop only
sc inc: 2 sc in the same st
2 sc: sc in the next two sts
3 sc: sc in the next 3 sts
sl st: slip stitch
st: stitch
Spike Stitch:
Elongated sc into the previous row: Insert the hook into the row directly below the spot where you would insert it if this were a regular single crochet stitch.
Note that the spot might be slightly to the left or right, rather than directly below, where you would insert the hook for single crochet.
Stitch Notes:
When you start a new row, make sure NOT to place the first stitch in the same space as the Ch 1, but rather the next stitch! Photos below for reference
I find it best to constantly check size by having a standard 12 oz can near by
If you find it coming out too tight check your tension, as well I constantly tug on to stretch it
If you choose the sl st border, remember to sl st LOOSELY, like as loose as you've ever sl st before. If you don't it will tighten the top and make it too hard to use
Since this is a free pattern, I did not have testers, any questions please see end of pattern for options!
