Before you get started…

Written in US terms. This is an upper beginner pattern with knowledge of working in the round needed. Uses elements of sc, hdc, dc, puff stitch, blo, sl st and invisible seam. This motif is perfect for making blankets, tapestries, sweaters, bags and much more!

Materials:

Yarn: I used for pattern: Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (you can theoretically use whatever yarn and corresponding hook size you want, but i would stick to medium weight and under)

Crochet hook: Size used with 24/7 cotton E (3.5 mm)

Stitch Marker, if needed

Scissors

Darning Needle

Abbreviations:

sc: single crochet

yo: yarn over

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

ch: chain

-sl st: slip stitch

st(s): stich(es)

blo: back loop only

*…*: repeat whatever is between the brackets around to end

PS: Puff Stitch

MPS: Medium Puff Stitch

[...]: stitches

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch (PS): pull up the loop on your hook a little , YO, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop. Repeat steps 4 more times. total of 5. you should be left with 11 loops on hook. YO one more time and pull through ALL loops. Ch 1 to close... for this pattern ALWAYS Ch 1 at the end to close

Medium Puff Stitch (MPS): pull up the loop on your hook a little , YO, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop. Repeat steps 3 more times. total of 4. you should be left with 9 loops on hook. YO one more time and pull through ALL loops. Ch 1 to close... for this pattern ALWAYS Ch 1 at the end to close

Pattern Notes

• Ch 1 and Ch 2 to start each row in pattern DO NOT count as stitches - the ch 1 and ch 2 within pattern do- they are noted in the stitch counts

• REMEMBER- the puff stitch has a ch1 to close, that ch is not included in the ch stitch count, it is part of the puff stitch

• There are parts where I state to skip a step, I included photos to see what exactly I mean

Instructions

Make a Magic Circle

Round 1: into the magic circle, work 6 sc. Do not join,[6 sc]

Round 2: *MPS, Ch 1* repeat to end. Sl st to first st (photo 1) [6 MPS]

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, ch 1, *sc in next 3 sts, ch 1* repeat to end. sl st to 1st st [18 sc, 6 ch]

Round 4: Ch 1, sc blo in same st as ch 1, sc blo in next two sts, ch 2, skp st. *sc blo in next 3 st, ch 2, sk st* repeat to end, sl st with first sc (photo 4) [18 sc blo, 6 ch 2]

Round 5: ch 1, starting in same st as ch 1 *hdc, PS in next, hdc in next. in the ch 2 space, hdc, ch 2, hdc* repeat to end, sl st with first hdc (photo 5) [24 hdc, 6 PS, 6 ch 2]

Round 6: ch 2, starting in ch 2 space, dc in next 2 sts, hdc, dc in next 2 sts. in ch 2 space: PS ch 2 PS. *sk first st (photo 7), dc in next 2 sts, hdc, dc in next 2 sts. in ch 2 space, PS ch2 PS* repeat to end. sl st to first dc made [6 hdc, 24 dc, 12 PS, 6 ch 2]

Round 7: ch 1, starting in ch 1 space, sc blo in next 7 st. in ch 2 sp, sc ch 2 sc, *sk st (photo 10), sc blo in next 8 st. in ch 2 sp, sc ch 2 sc,* repeat till end, when you get to end finish by sk st and putting 1 more sc blo in the last st, sl st into first sc made [60 sc blo, 6 ch 2]

round 8: ch 1, starting in ch 1 space, hdc blo in next 8 sts, in ch 2 space, PS ch 1 PS, *skip next st, (photo 8) hdc blo in next 9 st. in ch 2 sp, PS ch 1, PS.* repeat to end, finish with 1 hdc blo in last row after the last ps. do not sl st, fasten off and close with an invisible seam [54 hdc blo, 12 PS, 6 ch 2]
